Re: Odd setup

You have described a typical setup of a press like a Mark Andy 2200, and a few others. I absolutely hate that configuration. I started in wide web, where the arrangement was more linear, and you could adjust plate-to-substrate and anilox-to-plate independently. When I first saw one of these narrow w...

Re: Anilox BCM

After considerable research and contemplation, I specified the initial set of anilox rollers for a client a few years ago, for printing with Kodak plates, 175-line. We went with 1200-lpi, 1.8 BCM, Harper rollers. When the first image of the test plates, the cyan, came through the press and arrived a...

Re: C.I. Drum Temperature

Something like anti-freeze is probably good, but don't quote me. I've seen a couple of drums that did not have anti-corrosion for years and there was rust in the drum plumbing.

Re: Seeking Guidance on Eyemarks and Water-Based Flexo Inks

I have doubts that water-based ink is causing your problem. Can you describe the problem in a little more detail? Are you having color-to-color registration issues? Are you printing an eye-mark on top of another eye-mark for registration?

Re: Ph level for water based inks on paper

I do not think it's too high, but I would try to keep the range narrower. That may mean more frequent, but smaller, adjustment's I keep for 9.1 to 9.8, with the target being 9.5. I learned this through speaking with multiple ink manufacturing reps over the years. I have heard some reps say, "ou...

Re: New/used press set up

If you can do it, I'd vent outside. You'll do well to hire a specialist with airflow and that sort of thing, because you may end up creating a vacuum that sucks air and dirt in from the outside, so venting from outside-in may be involved. This is a big decision and investment. Don't cheap out. You'l...

Re: Waterbased Inks on PE film

I don't have advice on ink for stretch films, other than keep looking and asking. As for static control, yes, there are things you can do and should do. There are deionizing bars that can be strategically placed on you equipment and the converting equipment that follows the press. This link is the f...

Re: Eyemark trouble after running on press.

Please take a sample and measure the repeat between images for one more repeat that the number around. For example, if the job is four around, measure five image repeats. All should be equal. If not equal, there should only be one that is too short or too long. If that's the case, your distortion + ...

Re: Label Shop Live

I agree! I never noticed that both things share an acronym. Wow. I'm sincerely shocked. I love etymology and all kinds of word things. I like the idea and it will be incorporated and I'll and share. Many, many thanks. For those who understandably haven't heard of "BCD", it can also mean th...

Re: Waterbased Inks on PE film

Hello everyone, We are getting an in-line press for PE film. If your printing on unsupported films, servos and chill rollers are probably involved, so you’ll need to learn how to service both We are strongly considering trying out waterbased inks on this production line since the new press is suita...

Re: Label Shop Live

AS for BCD, this image shows part of the table that stores cylinders, but you only interact with what you need to see in the program, depending on where in the program you are. To be clear, shown are calculated BCD values, based on specified pitch, tape and plate. However, there will be a provision ...

Re: Label Shop Live

We've had a wide web version in live production for two years, managing twelve pieces of equipment: 1 + 2 + 3 + 6 machines in the workflow of four types, not just the press. Operators work from tablets. There's a provision for dryer temperature for the press, but just one. For the industry at large,...

Re: Label Shop Live

I have added features to Label Shop Live in response to longtimefan's dyne pen request. I also incorporated wind direction information. There is a place for press speed. On the dryer question, I have only one place for a dryer temperature. How many temperature settings are needed for the average nar...

Re: Retarder in Flexo inks

This is what I've found, or felt, about acetate vs. propanol. Ideal blend: 90% propanol, 10% acetate. It's getting hot out here, and damn, it's humid!: 80% propanol, 20% acetate. "I don't know what the hell I'm doing!" Do whatever you want. I have found that NPA makes the ink lay down nice...

Re: Retarder in Flexo inks

Whatever point you get to, whatever amount of this or that to add to your ink, make sure you incorporate it into your formula and standardize it. You don't want a bunch of guys running around adding this or that to the ink based on their knowing this or that. Control it.
