Advice on building a dream preflighting work station.

Postby Frank Burgos » Sat Dec 20, 2014 4:26 am

Hi Folks,

I want to help a client design a dream preflight work station, and I am not a prepress expert. I'd love your advice.

Cost is not a factor. They want the absolute best state-of-the art. I'd like to know the best:

Monitors
Software
Software plugins
Desk
Chair
Shelves
Any other considerations

Many thanks, in advance.

Here are some of the things that would be ideal for any flexo shop. Some of this is personal preference or seen at other shops that I have visited.

Eizo CG227
Mac Pro (any config)
Adobe Creative Suite
Esko Deskpack or Prinergy
Epson Stylus 9900 with Oris or GMG RIP Software
Laser writer that has tabloid size paper for separation proofing

Herman Miller Aeron chair (most desirable) or Mesh Chair
Any L Shaped desk

GTI D50 Light booth
Light table
Beta 20x loupe
Xrite i1iO
Xrite eXact

and if you want to get fancy.... BetaMax Pro

RichFlexo has described a pretty sweet flexo prepress setup.
I'd guess he meant Betaflex PRO on the last line, if you want to get fancy. :)

As plates, imagers and RIPS move to satisfy the requirements of High Definition flexo, older plate analysis systems are no longer able to offer the resolution needed to control these systems. New features such as the completely automated analysis of laser focus tests simplify the oerator's task and eliminate subjective judgement.

Check the FlexoDepot for pricing and ask about the Ten Day Free Trial

Larryyyyyy!

richflexo is always a big help and generous with his time and knowledge. I appreciate you, Rich!

Your ears must be burning, my friend. I'm on my third gig in as many months in Saudi Arabia, writing from the hotel, on my way back to my client's plant, but I had to say "hi!" (I prefer the British rules to quotation usage, but I don't wanna be accused of poor grammar in the U.S.) :)

Either you or a distributor of your will be selling those things, over hear. Count on it. A key part of the workflow.

When I return to the U.S., next week, I'll give you a ring. Much to get caught up on.

Hoping you, your boys and your wife are healthy and happy.

Warmest regards,
Frank

Hi Larry,

I didn't know there was a new version out! The company who sold it too us hasn't tried selling it to us yet. Is there that much of a difference?
