How to web the infeed tension for a Nilpeter FP3?

Postby Peter » Wed May 31, 2017 1:01 pm

Hey everyone, thanks for checking this out. Someone I work with is having a hard time webbing through the infeed tension area on his nilpeter fp3. He asked if I could post on here to see if anyone has any tips, a video, or anything helpful. Thanks in advanced.

Hi Peter. Can you post a picture of how he's trying to do it?

A picture would be very helpful. I would have to assume ... without a picture... that you have the Unwind, dancer, nip roll, and load cell. A few other rollers and dead bars in there as well. Unwind to the dancer to the web guide to the nip roll to the load cell. Remember to wrap the load cell with the material and in the correct direction.

There are principles that one applies when figuring out how a web should be threaded though sections of converting equipment including presses. If we can see the involved rollers (anvils, idlers, nips), we may be able to advise. A sketch of the positions of these rollers, from the perspective of the operator's side of the press, would be great.

Thread the load cell on the proper side on the nip roll. If you don't you will have trouble.

Thanks for the reply Fuzz. But can you send a picture or even mark it in MS Paint on one of the pictures I posted already? Thanks again

Makes sense. We were just hoping to avoid that with godly finding an answer on here. As far s instructions go, he's following the book to web it. It just buckles and tears most of the time. So he's been bypassing that section and it's working. He then just uses the unwind break instead of the tension settings.

I'm pretty new to printing myself, so I night be using the wrong terms. But he is having problems with the infeed tension I know that much lol.

Might that press have a PIV gearbox that's out of adjustment? It's kinda old school, but a possibility.

Hmm, I'm not completely sure since I'm at home now. What I can tell you is its a brand new press. Maybe 10 months old. If piv oust used on newer presses then I'd guess not. But how can I check if that's what it uses and if so how do I check if it needs adjusting?

What I would like to see is a sketch of the web path, from the perspective of the operator's side of the press.

Contact Tom Strunk at Nilpeter. He is very knowledgeable. Just call, ask for service then ask for Tom.
