Inks down the drain

Postby gwdad » Fri Aug 04, 2017 3:45 pm

We have a problem with our sink backing up because of what appears to be an ink clog. We only use water-based inks and clean our pans in a sink using water and an all-purpose cleaner. There isn't a lot of ink in the pan at the end of the day. The operator will drain and scrape the pan into a container. The plumbing has been blocked a few times in the past couple years. Is there something we can put down the drain to keep it open? It has to be non-caustic, no solvent since that drain joins our bathroom plumbing which goes to a grinder/pump that grinds up all solids and pumps everything out to the city pipes. Any help is appreciated.

Best advice I could give you on this is to make sure you are running plenty of hot water down the drain during clean up and after. You probably have sediments building up in the lines. Hard to get rid of.
