Pantone mixing formula correction

Postby barb » Sat Dec 02, 2017 12:41 am

Hi guys,

I can't seem to figure out how to properly do a formula correction after the first mixing so any help is appreciated.

For example, I have Pantone 259 that has Rubine red 75 to 25 Process blue.

My formula for 20kg ink is:
8,25kg Rubine Red (41,25%)
2,75kg Cyan (13,75%)
5kg Technical varnish (25%)
2kg Base varnish (10%)
2kg Thinner (10%)

So we mix that 20kg, put it on press and it's slightly off shade so we add 3kg more of Rubine red and that's the correct color.
How do I then properly recalculate the main formula to include that 3kg later added?

Mathematics :)
20kg is now 23kg , so 20 divided by 23 = 0.8695
Your new kg weights multiplied by .8695 will be a 20kg bucket of ink . .
( 9.78 / 2.39 / 4.34 / 1.74 / 1.74 added = 20kgs )

This new formula is fine as long as your new ratios between toners and perfomance vehicles will still produce an acceptable product and pass performance parameters.
