The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, A Unique Way to Help Young People

Feb. 26, 2008 - The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, Charlotte, NC, is a non-profit organization consisting of industry professional volunteers who are dedicated to encouraging today’s youths to explore the exciting and valuable career opportunities available to them in the flexographic printing industry.
Each year the Phoenix Challenge Foundation hosts its annual International Phoenix Challenge Competition on the Harper Campus at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. The 2008 competition, the largest ever, will have 62 high school students from the U.S. and Canada, participating in the 2 day competition. All travel, hotel and meal expenses for the students and their teachers are paid for by the PC Foundation, with funds donated from within and from outside our industry. Learn More

Feb. 6, 2008 - Constantia Hueck Foils, a leading converter of foils and films for the healthcare and food industries, will be unveiling their new CPI Security Foil at Booth #2056 at the 2008 Interphex Show in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, PA on March 26 – 28, 2008.
Recently developed by Constantia for pharmaceutical primary packaging, the unique, patented CPI Security Foil allows for fine-line graphics, text, logos and micro-features to be applied directly to the surface of the aluminum during the rolling process. Because the images are embedded in the foil, they cannot be removed and because the high precision laser technology that created CPI Security Foil is not readily known or available on the market, it cannot be imitated or copied by counterfeiters. 2007 Reed Technology Medal Recognizes Eugene Langlais II

Pittsburgh, PA, February 5, 2008--The Ben Franklin Society, honor society to the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF), is proud to announce that Eugene Langlais II, an independent consultant and retired chief technology officer of Presstek, Inc., is the recipient of the 2007 Robert F. Reed Technology Medal.
Mr. Langlais, who began his career as chief chemist for a government research company, has dedicated over 40 years to the development of products and processes that advanced the science of printing. Flexibly Speaking about Printed Electronics: Final Musings from the Flex Conference

Jan. 29, 2008 - Before I move on to other topics, here are a few final musings and observations from the 7th annual USDC Flexible Electronics and Displays Conference, held last week in Phoenix.
Roll-to-roll manufacturing is already here, but it's also a long way off: For many, the idea of using solution-based processing (AKA pure printed electronics) on gravure, Web-coat, or flexographic manufacturing equipment, continuously producing kilometers' worth of flexible devices at modest price points, is the proverbial holy grail.
